2nd Convocation 2010
The 2nd Convocation Ceremony of the Graduating Post-Graduate students of MAEER’s MIT Institute of Design 2010 batch was held at the MITID campus, Rajbaug, Loni Kalbhor on the 24th of March, 2010, at 6:30 pm.
Dr. Arun Nigavekar, former Chairman, University Grants Commission, graced the occasion as the chief guest of honor. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, Founder Director and Managing Trustee, MAEER’S MIT and Prof. H. Kumar Vyas, Chairperson, Education Council presided the ceremony along with Dr. Sunil Karad Executive Director MAEER’s MIT, Prof. Anant Chakradeo Dean. Design Habitat Prof. Arvind Merchant Director (Academics) MAEER’s MIT Institute of design. The programme started with the inauguration of the “Degree Show” an exhibition of students work convocated in the function later. The entire atmosphere in the campus was filled with joy and enthusiasm. All the students and the faculty were very happy and satisfied as most of the students have already got placements in various big organizations. The passing out students were very happy to see a very grand exhibition and show organized by their juniors. The official announcement of “Convocation 2010” was done by Prof.H.Kumar Vyas Chairman Education council, in his short address to the student he explained the importance of process and approach of every design learner and how it makes impact on the design as a whole. Dr.Sunil Karad in his introductory speech said MAEER’s MIT institute of design (MIT ID) established in 2006 is running graduate and post-graduate programmes in design & design management. This is the 2nd post-graduate batch convocating in a grand ceremony organized by the institute. He further said that the institute since its inception is focusing on social aspect of design education which is reflecting through various projects the institute is working on to benefit the society as a whole. The institute is not only catering big industries but also small scale and social organizations benefiting the society at large. The institute is now in the next level to register itself on the global map with lots of international tie ups happening in due course of time. Vipin George student of PG Transportation design got the Best Student Award for academic excellence The awards for best projects for Industrial design & Communication design were awarded to Ajmal A Manzil & Rhea Mathias respectively. Dr.Vishwanath Karad in his welcome address emphasized on the Indian culture its importance to the world and how Indian design should cater the global needs with the impression of Indian values. India is looked as country of talent which reflects creativity which will be useful globally. The “Design Annual”, compilation of academic and Diploma projects of graduating students from across discipline was released at the function. Dr.Arun Nigvekar in his convocation address said that knowledge today & in future will not confined to any region, country or society truly to become world as a global village. Convocation should be function of joy and celebration joy because the students have achieved knowledge and celebration because these students will be entering into professional life where the gained knowledge will be tested said Dr.Nigvekar. He further added that creativity and innovation has no boundaries and all design solutions should reflect needs of present and future. Dr.Nigvekar stated with examples of six great designers, the approach and their beliefs that design should focus itself in diversified areas from human needs, mobility, communication, reinvention and most importantly environmental balance. He ended his speech on a high note requesting students to carry the torch of success & creativity for the development and betterment of “Mother Earth”. Admissions Open 2010 MIT Institute of Design PUNE
Admissions Open for 2010-11 :
Admissions of Graduate Diploma programme (GDP), Post Graduate Diploma programme (PGDP) and Post Graduate Design Management programme (PGDMP) are open for the academic year 2010-11
Graduate Diploma Programme (GDP) : This 4½ year’s (9 semesters) intensive professional UG programme is offered in the following 7 areas of specialization:
Product Design, Transportation Design, Interior Space & Equipment Design and Retail & Exhibition Design
(Under Industrial Design Stream)
Graphic Design, Animation Film Design, Film & Video Design
(Under Communication Design Stream)
Post Graduate Diploma programme (PGDP) : This 2½ years (5 semesters) intensive professional PG programme is offered in the following 7 areas of specialization:
Product Design, Transportation Design, Interior Space & Equipment Design and Retail & Exhibition Design
(Under Industrial Design Stream)
Graphic Design, Animation Film Design, Film & Video Design
(Under Communication Design Stream)
Post Graduate Diploma in Design Management (PGDMP) : This 2 year (4 semesters) programme is created with an aim to create Design Professionals as Business Managers or Leaders. This unique program bridges the disciplines of design and business management.
Eligibility:
- GDP : 10+2 from any stream, students appearing for 10+2 in March/April are also eligible.
- PGD : Any Graduate or its equivalent from recognized University/Institute 10+2+3 minimum, students appearing for the final year graduation are also eligible.
- PGDMP : Any candidate who has inclination towards creativity, innovation, design and who has successfully completed his 10+2+3 programme in any discipline. Diploma holders or the candidates with any other background but with work experience in Design Firm or Department are also eligible for the programme.
Admission Procedure :
Application forms along with the prospectus are available at the Institute Address on payment of Rs. 1,500/- by Cash or a Demand Draft , drawn in favour of “MAEER Pune’s MIT Institute of Design”, drawn on Pune branch as registration fees for Design Aptitude Test.
The form can also be downloaded from the website and a hard copy can be submitted before the last date along with a demand draft of Rs.1500 / U.S. $40 in favour of “MAEER PUNE’s MIT INSTITUTE OF DESIGN” drawn on Pune branch as registration fees for Design Aptitude Test.
The last date for receiving the completed application forms for the academic year 2010–2011, is 31st January 2010.
The incomplete application forms / not satisfying eligibility criteria will be rejected. The MITID-Design Aptitude Test (MITID-DAT) fees (Rs. 1,500) for rejected applications & students who dont appear for the DAT will not be refunded. No official communication will be made regarding rejected application forms.All candidates fulfilling the requirements of minimum qualification will be sent Admit Cards for the Design Aptitude Test to be conducted at 7 centres — Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. (MITID reserves its right to change or cancel any of these centres).
Those who do not receive the Admit Cards by 30th of March 2010 may get in touch with MITID’s Admissions Cell. Admission is on the basis of MITID’s method of selection, which extends beyond the students previous academic qualifications. The MITID Admission Committee systematically seeks evidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation essential for a challenging and satisfying design career. The objective of the tests and the interviews is to ascertain the above qualities. Based on scores obtained from MITID-DAT, shortlisted candidates will be called for second phase.
MITID-Design Aptitude Test (MITID-DAT) for GDP, PGDP & PGDMP is scheduled (at all centres) on 18th April 2010, Sunday, timing 10:00 AM To 01:00 PM
The second phase of the admission procedure will consist of studio tests followed by personal interviews at the institute in Pune.
Tentative Dates of the Studio tests / Interviews :GDP/ PGDP/PGDMP is scheduled from May 17 – 22, 2010
The list of shortlisted candidates for the Second Phase will be announced on MITID’s website no separate call letters will be sent to the shortlisted candidates. All those candidates called for the second phase are required to attend the studio tests and interview, which completes the process of selection. The Admission Committee decides the procedures, grades and weightage every year.
The norms for the selection are the sole prerogative of the Admission Committee and the decision of the Admission Committee and the Management in any of the matters concerning the admission process and selection will be final. Any direct or indirect attempt to influence the admission committee or its members, academic office bearers or management will lead to the automatic disqualification of the candidate(s).
